To Salt or Not to Salt...
Most pool stores will advise against converting to a salt pool...BECAUSE THEN YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO BUY CHLORINE FROM THEM EVER AGAIN!!! Chlorine is the biggest seller in a pool store, by far. If everyone converted to salt, then there would be no money in having a store and they would have to close down. The majority of my time in this industry has been spent in the field. Because of this, I try to find the best, most cost effective solutions for my clients and their pools. Salt systems have proven to be huge money savers, and in this economy, who doesn't want to save money? Salt is sodium chloride. If you break up this molecule, you are left with sodium...and chlorine. So, with a salt pool you are now able to make chlorine at your house...WOW! Now you don't have to pay the manufacturer, the shipper, the distributor, or the retailer anymore. CUT OUT THE MIDDLEMEN!!! and make it yourself!
